Choosing high-quality home essentials doesn’t make you a snob. Does it mean you have to spend slightly more money? In most cases, yes. We’re not saying to break the bank, especially now around the holidays, but it’s so much better to spend slightly more money on high-quality essentials and make your home feel more intentional. Read on to find out why.
Putting Quality Over Quantity
Quality over quantity is always the way forward, especially in your home. Quantity always leads to clutter, and cheap clutter is even worse—especially when the item breaks or tears a few weeks after you get it. So, yes, it might feel good to get a few discount Target pillows or throws, but if the thread begins to fray, you’ll end up spending more in the long run.
Thinking intentionally, you want to buy things for your home that look good and last long. Two high-quality pillows that don’t lose their shape after a few months and don’t come apart when you wash them, which might have cost $20 or so, are so much better.
Sometimes, you can put quantity over quality; we can’t deny that. If you want to buy $5 simple cutlery because your teenagers take yours to school and never return it, that’s fine. Or if you want to put a $10 candle from Target because it smells nice, that’s also fine. But there are some things that you should always put quality first with.
Putting Comfort Over a Bargain
This is along the same lines as putting quality over quantity—it’s tempting to go for a bargain, but not when you might compromise on comfort.
The perfect example of this is with your bed. Yes, you can argue mattresses and bedding are expensive, but the difference between high-quality items and low-cost, obviously cheaper items in terms of quality is massive. And nobody wants to sleep on an uncomfortable bed.
And some would argue you are getting a bargain when you put your comfort first.
For your bed and bedding, we’d always recommend finding high-quality options from brands such as Nest Bedding. For anything else, from your sofa to the rugs you put down, the difference in comfort from high-quality items will always beat the short-lived thrill of finding something cheaper.
Quality Gives You Instant Calm
Your entire home environment feels calmer when you’re not nitpicking at items because they’re degrading faster than last night’s leftover dinner that didn’t get put in the fridge. You’re not always constantly searching for the next thing to buy, and you can feel proud of your home and the environment you’re creating.
And it’s not like things have to even look expensive. Nobody would look at your mattress or bedding, for example, and think they were $100 second-hand from Facebook Marketplace. The difference is how you feel when you’re in it and when you’re surrounded by the things you’ve invested money and time in.
A little doesn’t always go a long way in the home. As we said, there are things you don’t necessarily need to spend tons of money on, but there are a few select items that definitely pay off if you make sure they’re high-quality.
